When the Los Angeles FOX TV station wanted to promote its new detective show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it called on a food truck for help
The truck, owned by Los Angeles restaurateur Michael Mikhail, was wrapped in a bright, vinyl graphic that featured photos of the TV show’s stars. In two days in the LA community, the onboard crew passed out free bagels, cream cheese and coffee in logoed cups – plus pens and other memorabilia – to potential viewers.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is from the writers/producers of “Parks & Recreation” and stars Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher.
“We passed out more than 5,000 products in just two days to help get the word out about the new show, which is from the writers/producers of Parks & Recreation and stars Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher,” said Mikhail. “It was a great way to attract a lot of attention in a short amount of time.”
Food trucks can really get around when promoting a product, and the results are easy to measure. During a New York City food truck promotion for Adidas, a single truck was parked between the company’s two Manhattan stores, one of which is much larger and better known than the other. When the truck’s crews gave away cards with a printed combination that might open a treasure chest and reveal a free prize, the lesser-known store enjoyed a 129% traffic increase on promotion day.
Some people assume that food trucks appeal only to teens and 20-somethings. Actually, the food truck demographic is wide, as indicated by the fact that major companies, such as Frito Lay, Coca-Cola, Macy’s and Bud Light, have used them to showcase their brands.
“It is a creative way to build interest in a product, food, entertainment event or other offering,” said Mikhail. “It is adaptable to anything you can market, and it is a fresher way to promote a product as compared to a static billboard or magazine or TV ad.”
